IPMLC Support Statements

Podiatric Physicians and Surgeons are indisputably an essential part of the health care team who provide critical limb saving services.  While working at The Dept. of Veterans Affairs, I was introduced to the American Telemedicine Association (A.T.A.) and whom I've been working in tandem to expand telehealth initiatives to populations who may not have convenient access to health care.  As AI (Artificial Intelligence) and telehealth become an integral part of health care delivery, expanding the wealth of expertise through the Podiatry Compact has the potential to augment the public profile of podiatrists and bring our profession closer to mainstream medicine.  While working with the A.T.A., I witnessed a number of specialty Compacts expand nationwide, simultaneously helping to strengthen their visibility in society and as well as support for legislative efforts.  With this Compact, we can potentially expand our services to populations who may not have convenient access to health care.  I unequivocally support the creation of a Podiatry Compact to help expand the invaluable limb saving services we provide to our communities.

Respectfully,

Wilma Hunt-Watts, D.P.M., D.A.B.M.S.P., F.A.P.W.C.A.

I live in SW Ohio and already practice in Ohio and Indiana. However, it would be wonderful to be able to help cover our patients in other states for periods of long-term disability sustained by some of our other providers, maternity leave, or even a long-term move such as for taking care of relatives in other states.

In the end it just makes sense to have a national podiatrist contract similar to the other medical specialties.

Thank you kindly for your consideration in this matter!

I understand you're considering a DPM compact. I am a Nurse Practitioner working with podiatrists. We have such a great need for care for our patients. Many states have such a compact for Nurse Practitioners already, which greatly improves patient access to care. Creating a compact for DPMs would be of great assistance. I strongly encourage you to implement this for the betterment of our patients. Thank you.

My name is Jose Loor from DeLoor Podiatry and we service the underserved communities in CT, PA, NJ, NY, TN and FL.

The geriatric population in skilled, long-term nursing facilities as well as assisted living communities in the small towns in rural areas have very low pedal care.

The working blue collar workers of the major cities that live in the suburban zones in these states are under treated surgically when conservative treatment has maxed out.

It would be a blessing to have a Podiatric Compact that offers expedited state licensure, allowing for licensure in multiple individual states for those of us that have to travel interstate to serve our patients with better healthcare.
